ST THOMAS, USVI -- US Virgin Islands Police Captain Enrique Saldana, age 46, and Police Sergeant George Greene, Jr., age 33, and a local resident Louis Roldan, Jr., age not known, were arrested on Tuesday, August 4, after a federal grand jury on St Thomas returned an 11-count indictment against them.

NEW YORK, USA (AFP) -- Former US president Bill Clinton has announced a deal with two major US drug companies to supply cheap HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis treatments to developing countries, including the Caribbean. Under the agreement, Mylan and its subsidiary Matrix will make available a second-line therapy.

NASSAU, Bahamas (BIS) -- The Bahamas government’s Educational Guarantee Loan Program has been suspended due to a 61 percent default level, Minister of Education, Carl Bethel confirmed. This move came as a result of loan holders not meeting their obligations, he told a press conference on Wednesday.

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters) -- Cuba, in the grip of a serious economic crisis, is running short of toilet paper and may not get sufficient supplies until the end of the year, officials with state-run companies said on Friday. Officials said they were lowering the prices of 24 basic goods to help Cubans.
